2012 Subaru Impreza Review:
"The 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium marks a significant turning point for Subaru’s compact car lineup, offering improved fuel efficiency, a more refined design, and a wider range of features compared to its predecessor. This generation of Impreza is notable for introducing a smaller, more efficient 2.0-liter engine that delivers 148 horsepower while maintaining Subaru’s signature Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system—still a standout feature in a segment where most competitors are front-wheel drive. The Impreza 2.0i Premium offers an appealing blend of practicality, year-round drivability, and everyday comfort, making it a smart choice for buyers in colder climates or those seeking extra traction without upgrading to a crossover.
The lightweight body and refined suspension tuning contribute to a composed and smooth ride, with nimble handling and respectable steering feedback. While the 2.0-liter flat-four engine doesn’t deliver thrilling acceleration, it offers adequate power for daily commuting and highway cruising, especially when paired with the optional Lineartronic CVT, which enhances efficiency and smoothness. With EPA fuel economy ratings reaching up to 36 mpg on the highway, the 2012 Impreza is one of the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive vehicles of its time—a key advantage for cost-conscious drivers.
Inside, the 2.0i Premium trim improves on the base model by offering upgraded interior materials, additional comfort features, and improved tech. Standard features include heated front seats, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, and a multi-function display. The cabin design is simple and functional, with intuitive controls and good visibility all around. Rear seat space is surprisingly generous for a compact car, and the hatchback model in particular offers excellent cargo versatility with fold-down rear seats and a wide opening for larger items. Even the sedan version delivers solid trunk space for the class.
The Impreza also stands out in safety, with strong crash-test results from the IIHS, including a Top Safety Pick designation. Standard safety features include ABS, traction and stability control, active front head restraints, and full-length side curtain airbags. While the 2012 model doesn’t offer the advanced driver assistance systems found in newer cars, it still provides a secure and confident driving experience.
For buyers seeking a reliable, fuel-efficient compact car with the all-weather confidence of all-wheel drive, the 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Premium remains a compelling and practical choice. It may not be the fastest or most luxurious in its segment, but it nails the essentials and backs it up with Subaru’s reputation for durability and safety."

RECALL NOTICE
What is a recall:
A safety recall involving a motor vehicle or an item of motor vehicle equipment can be independently conducted by a manufacturer or ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In either case, the manufacturer must file a public report describing the safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard, the involved vehicle/equipment population, the major events that resulted in the recall determination, a description of the remedy, and a schedule for the recall. NHTSA monitors each safety recall to ensure the manufacturers provide owners safe, free, and effective remedies according to the Safety Act and Federal regulations. Manufacturers are obligated to attempt to notify owners of recalled products. For vehicles, that means manufacturers merge their own records of vehicle purchasers with current state vehicle registration information. For equipment, where state registration records do not exist, manufacturers are obligated to notify their distribution chain and known purchasers of the recalled equipment. However, even if you do not receive a notification, if your vehicle, child restraint, or other item of equipment is involved in a safety recall, the manufacturer is obligated to provide a free remedy.
