2015 Jeep Patriot Review:
"The 2015 Jeep Patriot Latitude presents itself as a budget-friendly compact SUV that delivers classic Jeep styling with a few nods toward modern comfort and versatility. While it doesn't try to compete with more refined crossovers in terms of ride quality or advanced technology, it makes its case as a rugged, simple, and practical option—especially for those seeking a small SUV with available off-road capabilities. Based on an aging platform, the Patriot still manages to appeal to drivers who prioritize affordability and straightforward design over the bells and whistles of newer models.
Under the hood, the 2015 Patriot Latitude comes standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 158 horsepower, or an optional 2.4-liter engine offering 172 horsepower for those needing extra capability. Front-wheel drive is standard, while two four-wheel-drive systems are available, including the more capable Freedom Drive II setup with off-road gearing and hill descent control. With its boxy design, the Patriot still carries a rugged appearance that fits within the Jeep family, even if its mechanical sophistication lags behind its rivals.
The Latitude trim adds meaningful upgrades over the base Sport model, aimed at enhancing comfort and convenience. It includes features such as heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls, and body-colored exterior trim for a more polished look. The interior is functional and relatively roomy for a compact SUV, with straightforward controls and adequate seating space for both front and rear passengers. Rear cargo space is decent, offering up to 53.5 cubic feet with the seats folded, though the liftover height is a bit high for loading heavy items.
On the road, the Patriot delivers a firm ride and basic handling characteristics. It doesn’t offer the composed refinement of more modern crossovers, but it gets the job done for daily driving and light trail use. Noise insulation is minimal, especially at highway speeds, but the seating position is upright and visibility is good. Fuel economy varies depending on drivetrain and transmission choice, ranging from the low 20s to around 30 mpg on the highway in front-wheel-drive models.
Tech and safety features are limited by today’s standards, with available options including a touchscreen interface, Bluetooth connectivity, and satellite radio. Standard safety features include front and side curtain airbags, stability control, and anti-lock brakes, though some desirable features like a backup camera or advanced driver assists were only available on higher trims or as options.
The 2015 Jeep Patriot Latitude is best suited for budget-conscious buyers who want the look and feel of a traditional Jeep without the higher costs associated with larger or more advanced SUVs in the brand’s lineup. It’s not the most refined or modern vehicle in its class, but it remains a practical choice for basic commuting with a touch of off-road readiness."
