The 2019 Subaru Impreza 2.0i is a solid choice for someone wanting an all-wheel-drive compact car with good efficiency, everyday comfort, and Subaru’s confidence in bad weather. It isn’t going to blow you away with speed, but it does a lot of important things well, especially for drivers in climates or situations where traction matters.
Driving the 2019 2.0i feels composed. The 2.0-liter flat-four engine makes about 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque; paired with either a five-speed manual or the Lineartronic CVT, the car delivers steady acceleration and good responsiveness in urban and highway driving. It’s not sporty in the sense of sharp bursts or aggressive shifts, especially with the CVT, but the handling is trustworthy, and the symmetry of the AWD setup gives better grip in rain, snow, or slippery roads than many FWD rivals. Steering has more life than expected, and the ride soaks up most road imperfections without being harsh.
Inside, the cabin is well thought out for this segment. Materials are generally good, and the design is clean and functional. There's enough space up front for taller drivers, and though the back seat isn’t cavernous, it’s adequate for second-row occupants on shorter to moderate drives. Visibility is a strong point thanks to large windows and good sightlines, which mitigates some of the bulk that compact AWD cars tend to have. Noise insulation is decent, though under heavy acceleration or on coarser pavement you’ll hear the engine more than in more premium cars.
As for comfort and amenities, even the base trim of Impreza 2.0i includes essentials—power windows and locks, a multimedia display, cloth seating, heating, and so forth. The 2.0i doesn’t have all the frills by default, but Subaru gives you a good foundation and many safety features are available or standard depending on configuration. The inclusion (especially in higher trims) of driver-assist technologies, backup camera, and other modern aids helps it feel current, not outdated.
Fuel economy is one of its stronger cards. With AWD being standard, the Impreza still manages fuel numbers that are quite competitive for its class. If you opt for the CVT, you’ll see higher highway mpg and decent combined figures. If you go manual, the city fuel economy is lower, as is typical, though still reasonable for what you get.
On the downside, the 2.0i trim is modest in performance—if you demand brisk throttle response or sporty acceleration, you will feel the limitations. The CVT, while smooth, can feel a little disconnected under heavy acceleration. Also, build quality and refinement are good but not luxury-level; for example, higher grade materials, quieter cabin finishes, and more powerful audio systems are reserved for premium or sport trims.
Overall, the 2019 Subaru Impreza 2.0i is an excellent everyday car for those who want AWD, solid value, and practicality over excitement. It shines in balance: costs, comfort, safety, and capability rather than performance or flash.
